Imagine having the ability to manipulate light. You can use it to peer into the future or conjure a sword like the Green Lantern or maybe even move objects by merely willing it. This is the world of Light bearers – People who can wield light. The best way to put this would be a spoonful of star wars mixed in a pot of medieval era with a zest of LOTR. The author has created an entire universe with its own suns and moons and their mystical effects.

Uniqueness

Briefly, the story is about a young boy who is a potentially powerful Light bearer and is pursued by both the Evinir and the Watch Light. While this one-liner might not sound so original, the execution is far from ordinary, and I will discuss that in detail below. What I found unique and exciting was how the author has not just plainly given some people the ability to manipulate light. He has meticulously created different ways of doing it, each with its own pros and cons. The author has thought a lot about how you can manipulate the same element for destructive and constructive purposes.

Predictability

The book seemed predictable in the beginning. But by the time I was done, I was reeling from all the twists and turns. It was almost like being on a rollercoaster where initially you can see where you’re going. Still, by the end, you are so engrossed in the thrill that you are unable to foresee any upcoming twists even though they are right in front of you.

Writing Style

The narration is crisp, and the pace goes up and down throughout the book. The author assumes an alternate perspective style of storytelling, which is the most common style these days. We get to see the story from the perspective of many characters. However, unlike many books where the same scenario is depicted from multiple perspectives, the story keeps moving forward even though the point of view changes.

Cost Worth

The book costs Rs. 300 on the kindle edition. Would I pay for it? Thousand times, yes. It is worth every penny.

Entertaining

The book was so gripping that it got me out of my reading slump. I had not picked up a book for days, and I could not get myself to read one. After pushing myself to start reading it, my love for reading came back. I remembered why I enjoy fantasy books so much. There is the right amount of suspense and mystery and a generous amount of fantastical just the way I like it. Awakened is the first book in a trilogy, and the first book ended on a high point. I have so many questions and am waiting to find out what happens in the next one.
